So basically instead of having people buy comics every months Marvel now wants us to pick only the stories that we're interested in? Instead of having continuity in every issue, meaning people would have to purchase a series every month as the story never ends, Marvel now prefers that people just buy a single story that isn't tied to continuity and will more likely than not be disregarded by future stories? How can this be construed as a "good business plan"?

Dude, what are you on about? Do you even hear yourself?
I think any reasonable human being knows that we’ve long passed the point where the average person can afford to buy the entire line of what marvel puts out every month. Same thing with any other company you’d choose to name—DC or Image or whoever.
So we’re not building our stories the way we did when there were only a dozen titles and the buy-in for the whole line in a given month was $1.80. It would be crazy to do so—you’d drive off far more readers that way, who couldn’t make heads or tails of anything and who’d give up and move onto other things.
Marvel prefers that people buy the stories that they like, the characters that they like, whatever those might be. And we work hard every month to make sure that you have to come back again to see what happens next.
That’s the best business plan I know.
